Glasses

I got a pair of new glasses over Labor Day weekend. I've noticed that my vision seemed to be getting worse, so I self-diagnosed myself as having cataracts. Then I inspected my new glasses only to discover that the lens seemed to be bubbling. I took the glasses back, and the lens coating is defective. I'm wearing my old glasses and I can see again!

Babies

When someone is expecting a baby, family and friends love to sit and guess what the sex of the child will be. I sets of a pandemic itself of baby fever. My daughter Candice is expecting a baby boy in February. My nephew's wife is al due in that time frame, but they don't know what kind of baby they are having yet. I'll keep you posted!

Back from California

One week ago Mike and I were standing on the beach enjoying the Pacific Ocean. It was breathtaking! It was good to come home again, but I still long to sit on the beach and watch the waves.

Happy Halloween

My friend, JoDee, emailed this photo to me. This display is not set up in Cavalier although I think it is funny. It appears to be a beautiful day for children to go door to door for treats.

A New Family Member

Buddy is the latest addition to our family of "Must Love Dogs". Dan has waited quite awhile to get a puppy or to be living where he could have a pet. We met Buddy on Saturday and he is a cutie!

Is it really June?

It is cold, wet, and rainy today. The thermometer says that it is 44 degrees out. When will I get to complain about it being too hot?

Tonight we're in Mobridge, SD visiting my sister. I haven't been here for two years so we're having a good time! She has a new puppy who loves to play and chew.

Busy Day!

Our kids are home for the weekend so that is fun! Today was my day for social outings. This morning I went out to breakfast with my friends. This afternoon we went to a graduation party. We followed this with a wedding and reception. Then we went to another graduation party. Tonight we had a fireside chat with the neighbors.

The most boring thing we did today is buy a new sump pump.

Celebrating in Fargo

We seemed to have a lot to be thankful for is our get together today in Fargo. We had four of our children together to celebrate Easter and Lucas's 21st birthday. Laura was even able to join us from Chicago! We all had so much fun!!

The Rising Red

The Fargo Moorhead area just got another even higherflood forecast. It's estimated that they will reach and surpass the previous record levels around 1AM Friday morning with the potential of rising another 2 feet beyond record levels. As stated bythe National Weather Service, "we will be enteringuncharted territory" and "do not have models to predict what the river will do" from that point. I can't imagine how disheartening and frightening this is.I'm asking that you lift this region and thesepeople up in your prayers. If you can take a minute or two to pray tonight or in the coming days andnights, please do!Pass this request on and let's cover the Red Riverwith God's strength, courage, and peace through ourprayers.

The Lord rules over the floodwaters, The Lord reignsas King forever.
The Lord give His people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.
Psalm 29:10-11

Chris and Candice are Engaged

Chris and Candice are engaged...no plans yet, but we are kind of in shock that our youngest child will be the first one to get married. The only "decision" so far is that they would like Mike's dad to be the minister!

A New Haircut

Candice has a new haircut ... she is going to miss 5 1/2 inches of the hair she chopped off. It's cold! We were lucky enough to miss most of the blizzard, but now it is frigid with the gusty winds. Candice is visiting her grandparents in Wisconsin right now ... a little weather wasn't going to change her travel plans.

Rainy Day

Rain and ice delayed school for two hours today. I would have like the whole day off!

Coffee Shop

Wedgewood Manor is building a coffee shop/beverage center for the staff and residents at the nursing home. We are in need of a clever name for this new space. My ideas that I've collected are Cuppa Roast, Roaster Coaster, Jumpin' Java, Second Cup, Golden Sippers. What do you think?

Quilting

Tonight I went to Quilt Guild. We had such an awesome meeting. We learned how to make table runners from border prints. We had a lesson on wool ... don't throw any of your old wool clothing or blankets. You can make mittens and all kinds of projects from the wool.

Waiting for Spring

I am so very tired of ice and winter. I'm ready for spring! On Friday we celebrated at school by running outside with all the students shouting, "HOODIE HOO" to chase winter away. Here are the facts:
Northern Hemisphere Hoodie-Hoo Day
When : Always on February 20
On this winter day, people go out at noon, wave their hands over their heads and chant "Hoodie-Hoo". It is a day to chase away winter and bring in spring. After all, everyone in the northern hemisphere are sick and tired of winter at this point and a little crazy being cooped up inside all winter and not seeing the sun.....Now, let's see if it works!

The Book of Esther

This winter I have enjoyed participating in a weekly Bible Study on the Book of Esther. It has been such an awesome experience ... it is a Beth Moore Bible Study. I love the story, the rich history, and fellowship with these ladies every Wednesday night. I'll be so disappointed when the study is done.

90 Years to Celebrate

February 13th was my father-in-law's 90th birthday. We celebrated in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. I am so lucky to be part of the Neumann family. We had a great time together!

Ice ... Ice ... Ice

I know I am getting old ... I hate ice! I think I fear it. Today there was no school because of ice. I had no idea that there wasn't school so I went to school. After I found out there was no school I decided to go home to have breakfast and coffee with Mike. The roads were super slick! I was stopped at the only stoplight in town and was hit by a kid driving a pick up to school (who didn't know it was called off either). The pick up was fine ... but not my car. In fact I was unable to open the driver's door. Everyone is fine and I got to go home and quilt for the rest of the day!

Relay -- part 2

Wow! The students did a great job with the Mini Relay. They raised $1600! Isn't that awesome!

Relay for Life

Today we are having a carnival at school for the RELAY FOR LIFE. This marks the 25th year of the Relay. As much as I hate doing fundraisers and asking others for money, this is one cause that I put my heart into!

Snow Hills

This is the most fun we have had all year ... we have hills in Cavalier! They are temporary but my class is enjoying them!

The Quiet House

The kids blew in or flew in and have left my nest too quickly. Laura flew back to Chicago today, Candice returned to Watertown, and Lucas & friends are on their way back to Mayville State. I loved every minute that they were here. I hope that they come back soon!

The Sisters are HOME!

Candice and Laura are home for the weekend to celebrate Laura's long over due Christmas. Laura flew from Chicago to Fargo and was picked up by Candice (who had a terrible time finding the airport). Next time she needs to bring a compass. Last night we had a fun time opening a few gifts and eating lots of snacks. The turkey is cooking and we'll be having Christmas dinner later on today!

Clobbered by COLD WEATHER!

It is -30. Honestly, I think it has been about the worst winter in 10 years. All I can say is thank goodness for auto start on cars! My students are eager to go out and play. Let's hope it warms up soon!

Let It Snow Some More

I am so tired of being cold! I had forgotten what real North Dakota winters are like. I can't wait for this one to end. I now think we're having a heat wave when the thermometer reads ZERO.
